Activities

A popular monthly event for the PWYC membership is the Book Club. Reading friends gather for dinner and to share ideas about the latest literary selection. Books choices range from those on the best seller list to those that may be lesser known, though worthy of discussion. Book Club is a wonderful way to get away from that computer screen and delve into the sights and sounds of “the page.”
A steady breeze off the bay can be found on the pool deck, where members gather with their families to relax and enjoy the sun. Opening day is traditionally the week prior to Memorial Day weekend and the activities continue non-stop until the sun dips down at the end of the Labor Day holiday. The Club endeavors to remain open on weekends till October 1.

Adjacent to the pool is our snack bar, the Sunset Grill, also open every day during the summer season.

Our terrific tenured pool director is in charge of personnel and programming set forth by the pool committee, including a swim team for all members ages 5 to 16. There are separate:
  • Swimming Lessons
  • Lifeguard Certification Classes
  • Adult Swims
  • Family Fun Days

When the leaves begin to fall and a distinct chill is in the air, it’s time for platform tennis at PWYC. The season for this sport is October to May, and as with its summer counterpart – tennis – a schedule is set up by the committee to allow members to play at their most comfortable skill level. There is inter- and intra-club match play available for those with an interest in participating. The popularity of this activity is evident by the continuous use of the three state-of-the-art, all-weather courts.

Clinics and lessons are provided for the entire family by our skilled staff.

Events include:

  • Parent Child Mixer
  • Paddlegate Tournament
  • Husband and Wife Mixer
  • Cow Bay Tournament
  • Charitable Mixers
  • LIPTA Sanctioned Tournaments
PWYC has four Har-Tru courts that see plenty of action throughout the season, which extends from early spring through October. Under the guidance of the tennis committee members, schedules are arranged to accommodate every level of player for both leisurely games and for competitive play.

Activities Include:
  • Men's & Women's Play
  • Mixed Doubles Play
  • Inter- & Intra-Club Play and Tournaments
  • Member-Guest Tournaments
  • Ladies' Day Play
  • Charity Tournaments
  • Intensive Tennis Children's Program
Another popular outdoor activity during the winter is trapshooting. Like all other activities at PWYC, trap is a family sport and is a great way for parents to bond with their son or daughter (please note that Junior shooters must be 12 years old by November 15th to participate). In fact, many of our adult shooters started out as juniors and now have families of their own – some are third generation participants.

At PWYC we shoot 16 yard 5 stand trap, on the north patio every Saturday from 10AM to 2PM, from November to April. In the adult and junior categories we compete for top gun, high gross, high net and a number of other trophies and prizes. We do special shoots for Thanksgiving and St Patrick’s Day for fun and prizes. If you have ice water in your veins you may want to enter the polar bear shoot.

What a great way to spend a weekend morning, with friends, food, and clay pigeons on the fly!
